18.16 Seeing the self as the doer Krishna speaks
तत्रैवं सति कर्तारमात्मानं केवलं तु यः
पश्यत्यकृतबुद्धित्वान्न स पश्यति दुर्मतिः
tatraivaṁ sati kartāram ātmānaṁ kevalaṁ tu yaḥ
paśhyaty akṛita-buddhitvān na sa paśhyati durmatiḥ
So one who, in spite of this, sees the self alone as the doer, with an unformed understanding, does not see rightly.
Explanation
Seeing the self alone as the doer.
One who, in spite of this, sees it that way — with an akṛta-buddhi, an unformed understanding — does not see rightly.
The error is 3.27's, named for the last time. Across the whole book the mistake is never acting; it is the arithmetic that puts one cause where there are five.
