13.12 What knowledge is for Krishna speaks

अध्यात्मज्ञाननित्यत्वं तत्त्वज्ञानार्थदर्शनम्
एतज्ज्ञानमिति प्रोक्तमज्ञानं यदतोन्यथा

adhyātma-jñāna-nityatvaṁ tattva-jñānārtha-darśhanam
etaj jñānam iti proktam ajñānaṁ yad ato ’nyathā

constancy in knowledge of the self, and looking toward what knowledge is for — all this is called knowledge; what is otherwise is ignorance.

The definition is closed by fiat, and it is a strange one to have arrived at. Twelve qualities of character have just been declared to be knowledge.
