10.32 Among arguers, the argument Krishna speaks
सर्गाणामादिरन्तश्च मध्यं चैवाहमर्जुन
अध्यात्मविद्या विद्यानां वादः प्रवदतामहम्
sargāṇām ādir antaśh cha madhyaṁ chaivāham arjuna
adhyātma-vidyā vidyānāṁ vādaḥ pravadatām aham
I am the beginning, the middle and the end of creations, Arjuna. Among knowledges, the knowledge of the self; and among those who argue, the argument.
Explanation
Among those who argue, the argument.
Beginning, middle and end of creations; the knowledge of the self among knowledges; and vādaḥ among debaters.
Not the winner — the arguing itself. It is a strange and generous thing to claim, and it says something about a book made entirely of a conversation.
