1.44 Dwelling in hell, unending Arjuna speaks

उत्सन्नकुलधर्माणां मनुष्याणां जनार्दन
नरकेऽनियतं वासो भवतीत्यनुशुश्रुम

utsanna-kula-dharmāṇāṁ manuṣhyāṇāṁ janārdana
narake ‘niyataṁ vāso bhavatītyanuśhuśhruma

And for those whose family traditions have been destroyed, Krishna, we have heard from the wise that dwelling in hell is unending.

Explanation

Hell, and unending.

We have heard from the wise — and the argument, having run out of reasoning, closes on authority.

Chapter 2 will be sharp about exactly this move. Arjuna's case ends where 1.31 began: with something heard rather than seen, which is the pattern the whole speech has traced.
